The governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has stated that Nigerians will vote for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election rather than the APC against his party, the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
On Tuesday, Makinde made this statement during the Channels Television program “Politics Today.”

He said,“The 2027 election won’t be PDP versus APC; it would be Nigerians versus APC. Mark my word on that.”
The governor accused the APC government of being to blame for the nation’s faltering economy and growing security threats, stating that the Bola Tinubu administration will be judged in the next election.
He insisted that the PDP will not repeat the error that cost it the 2023 presidential election, saying that his party was still the dream of the average person.

Drawing lessons from the previous elections, Makinde claimed that his party erred greatly in awarding the presidential ticket, the position of national chairman, and the director general of the presidential campaign to solely northern members.
The Oyo governor reaffirmed that the PDP’s loss in the poll was the result of a self-inflicted blow to the party caused by the exclusion of Southerners from the three main seats.
According to reports, Iyorchia Ayu of the North Central was the PDP’s national chairman in the run-up to the most recent election, Atiku Abubakar of the North East was the party’s flag bearer, and Atiku’s campaign director general was Aminu Tambuwal of the North West.
He added that if Atiku had chosen Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State at the time, as his running mate, the PDP ticket would have been more powerful.
“If the three main influential positions to take us to the election were occupied by the North East, the North Central, and the North West, how do we sell that position all around the country,” Makinde argued.
