Will Opposition Unite? Mega-Party Proposed for 2027 Elections.
Renowned political economist Professor Pat Utomi has outlined plans to establish a mega political party aimed at challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections. Utomi, who returned to Nigeria after an extended stay in the U.S., criticized existing political parties, asserting that they have failed to serve the nation’s interests. He emphasized the need for a new political order, driven by values such as integrity and respect for others, to address Nigeria’s challenges.
Utomi highlighted the importance of citizens and leaders embracing a mindset focused on collective well-being rather than narrow self-interests. He outlined his intention to convene meetings in Lagos and Abuja to advance discussions on the formation of the mega party, aiming to achieve significant progress before returning to the U.S.
The groups expected to form the mega platform include two categories of politicians: the ‘mea culpa’ cohort, comprising those who acknowledge past failures, and the ‘new value’ cohort, consisting of individuals committed to a fresh approach to governance.
