Obaseki, APC bicker over propaganda against Oba’s palace
The Commissioner for Communication and Orientation in Edo State, Chris Nehikhare, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of resorting to propaganda to tarnish the reputation of the palace of the Oba of Benin as part of its election strategy. Nehikhare made these allegations during a press briefing where he presented evidence purportedly showing APC members discussing this strategy on a WhatsApp group.
He warned journalists to maintain neutrality and not be swayed by deceptive tactics ahead of the election. However, the APC refuted these claims, attributing them to the deceptive strategy of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and predicting the failure of such tactics.
Nehikhare emphasized the importance of not being drawn into cheap propaganda, asserting that the PDP would secure victory in the upcoming election through genuine efforts rather than resorting to falsehoods. He criticized the APC for lacking innovative strategies and failing to present a clear vision for the future of Edo State.
In response, the APC denied the allegations and criticized the PDP for resorting to outdated tactics. They highlighted the importance of transparency and genuine engagement in political campaigns and criticized the PDP’s lack of a clear vision for the state’s future under their candidate, Asue Ighodalo.
Overall, the dispute between the two parties underscores the intense competition and strategizing ahead of the election, with each side accusing the other of employing deceptive tactics and lacking a credible vision for Edo State’s future.
