Two Senators from Akwa Ibom State have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers are Senator Sampson Ekong, representing Akwa Ibom South, and Senator Aniekan Bassey, representing Akwa Ibom North-East.
Their defection letters were read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary on Wednesday.
There has been a wave of defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
While some prominent politicians have moved to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), others have aligned themselves with the APC.
The two Senators from the State, according to the letters read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, cited the ongoing leadership crisis within the PDP as their reason for leaving the party.
