Speaking to reporters in Kano State on Wednesday following a meeting with a coalition of traders, Amaechi made this point clear.

In the party’s primary election, the former Transportation Minister promised not to resign in support of any candidate.
“I will contest the ADC presidential primary, and by God’s grace, I hope to win so that I can face Tinubu in 2027. I am not stepping down for anyone. Let the people decide who they want to lead,” he said.
Amaechi emphasised that the ADC needs to hold an open election and that the party would be strengthened by internal democracy.
Additionally, he attacked the Bola Tinubu administration, claiming that Nigerians were unhappy with its policies. He said that the nation was experiencing severe hardship.

“Whether the government wants to conduct credible elections or not, one thing is certain—time is up. Nigerians are tired because no one is happy under Tinubu, not even in Rivers or across the South. People are suffering everywhere,” he said.
Amaechi contended that the administration had not demonstrated true inclusivity in its political appointments. He claimed that many people in different areas were unhappy because only a small number of people connected to the president had received rewards.
The former governor said that the party leadership had the final say about zoning in the ADC, but he insisted that he would continue to run for office regardless of the result.
Amaechi said he was among the nation’s most qualified candidates. “If you compare Tinubu and all the other aspirants, who is more prepared than I am? Since I’m from the South and we don’t have any territorial disputes, my candidature promotes unity’, he continued.

Amaechi denied allegations that Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, had undermined his support base in Rivers.
“Recently, when I visited Rivers to inaugurate the ADC, the turnout was massive from the airport to the venue, and nobody paid for that mobilisation. That should tell you where the people stand,” he said.
