The Nigerian Army and Police have not responded to the reported killing of soldiers in Abia State during Biafra Day observances.
The Nigerian Army and Police have remained silent on the reported killing of soldiers in Abia State during Biafra Day observances. Despite the incident being widely circulated on social media, both institutions have yet to issue any official statements or comments.
Last week, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) declared May 30 as a sit-at-home day to honor those who died in the Nigerian Civil War. The directive led to a halt in business activities across the South-East region.
During the sit-at-home, gunmen attacked a military checkpoint in Abia State, allegedly killing four soldiers and burning their unit and patrol van. The army and police have not addressed the incident.
In response, the South-East Governors’ Forum condemned the attack, describing it as “unfortunate” and a setback for peace efforts in the region. Governor Hope Uzodimma urged security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure justice for the victims and their families
