Benue APC Officials Sue Ganduje for Contempt Over ‘Sacking’ Issue

The political turmoil in Benue State’s chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) intensified as the dissolved state executive, led by Augustine Agada, took legal action against the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. On August 21, 2024, a Benue State High Court issued an order halting the dissolution of the state executive by Ganduje’s National Working Committee (NWC). Despite this, the NWC proceeded to dissolve the state exco later that evening.

Agada and his team, alongside eight others, have filed a motion for contempt against Ganduje’s NWC. They argue that Ganduje’s actions violate the court’s order and are seeking judicial enforcement to ensure adherence to the ruling. The exco’s legal team, led by counsel M.T. Aiyebo, asserts that the NWC was duly served the court order, but chose to ignore it and dissolve the committee anyway.

The motion requests the court to compel Ganduje’s NWC to abide by the initial court decision and to impose punitive measures for their defiance. The legal dispute highlights ongoing friction within the APC, with the dissolved exco accusing Ganduje’s NWC of acting in contempt of court. The situation has escalated tensions within the party and added to the existing crisis in the Benue APC chapter.
