Barely three hours after the news of former president Muhammadu Buhari’s death in a London hospital, sympathizers flocked to his home in Daura, Katsina State, to offer their final condolences.
The remains of the late former president would be flown back to Nigeria for burial at his birthplace of Daura, Katsina State today July 14, according to a close relative of the deceased who spoke to PUNCH Online over the phone while requesting anonymity.
In line with this, President Tinubu had sent his VP. Shettima off to London to escort the remains of late Buhari’s body back to his hometown in Katsina.
Recall that on May 29, after his second term ended, Buhari left Aso Rock and relocated to his hometown of Daura, where he was allegedly tending to his cattle.

On February 25, 2025, however, Buhari returned to his home in Kaduna, a move that several Nigerians ascribed to the upcoming general elections in 2027.
Shortly after his demise on Sunday, hundreds of Nigerians gathered at his residence in Kaduna to mourn and pay their last respects.
Armed soldiers patrolled the street, and two military gun trucks were positioned at strategic locations close to the residence, strengthening security in the region.

Movement of vehicles was restricted, and security personnel strongly discouraged loitering in the small residential area.
Similarly, the security in his Buhari’s hometown, Daura has also been beefed up ahead of the burial.
