2027: Atiku led coalition offers Peter Obi VP role in one-term deal

There are hints that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in 2023, may have been allegedly offered a vice presidential position on a combined single-term ticket by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

The concept was first proposed during a meeting between Atiku and Peter Obi early this year in the United Kingdom, according to various credible sources involved in the coalition efforts who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they lacked the authority to talk on the subject.

According to the sources, Obi has allegedly accepted to be the former vice president’s running partner, and Atiku has pledged to serve a single four-year term.

The former governor of Anambra State, however, was reportedly trying to win over his core supporters.

Peter Obi ran alongside Atiku in the 2019 presidential election under the Peoples Democratic Party, but the All Progressives Congress, led by former President Muhammadu Buhari, defeated them.

A coalition to run against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election was declared in Abuja on March 20 by Atiku, Peter Obi, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and others.

According to insider reports, a party chieftain privy to the current political machinations revealed that Atiku and Obi have reached a consensus and are currently consulting their supporters.

He said, “You know that by this time next year, by May 2026, almost all parties would have unveiled their presidential candidates for the 2027 elections. So, the coalition move is mindful of that.

Former VP, Atiku offers Obi running mate role

“The leaders have all agreed that it’s only a coalition between Atiku, Obi, and others that can wrest power from Tinubu. So, they are crossing the T’s and dotting the I’s to finalise this.

“Atiku and Obi met earlier this year in the UK. That was where Atiku first mooted the idea of a coalition and urged Obi to be his running mate. Obi then asked for time to think it over and consult his loyalists.

“But recent developments show that Obi has accepted to be Atiku’s running mate, and Atiku has also agreed to serve a single four-year term and hand over to the former Anambra State governor. They have both agreed to sign a written agreement if necessary. Obi is trying to get the buy-in of his loyalists before this is formally announced.”

When asked about what party they intend to use  followin gthe current PDP and LP crisis, another sources disclosed that they’re exploring the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
