Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa has been upheld as the lawful president of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) by the Appeal Court in Abuja. This decision puts a stop to the challenge being raised by Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, well-known as MC Oluomo, and his followers.
This result follows an earlier decision by the National Industrial Court on March 11, 2024, which also confirmed Baruwa to be the union’s lawful leader.
Alhaji Najeem Usman Yasin and Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede led the MC Oluomo’s faction, which filed an appeal against the ruling but was unsuccessful in persuading the Appeal Court.
A three-member panel of Justices Hamma Akawu Barka, Nnamdi Dimgba, and Asmau Ojuolape Akanbi delivered the unanimous verdict, declaring the appeal “lacking in merit.”
The commission affirmed Baruwa’s election as NURTW president, upholding the previous decision.
The court ruling stated, “The evidence before the court clearly establishes Baruwa as the elected president of the NURTW.” Thereby clearly stating that the MC Oluomo faction has no legal right to overturn the decision
The court ordered MC Oluomo’s group to pay ₦100,000 as damages to Baruwa and his supporters.
This ruling brings an end to months of legal wrangling over the NURTW’s leadership, allowing Baruwa to take over without additional controversy.
It remains to be seen how MC Oluomo’s group would react to this final decision.
