PDP blows hot over "national secretariat sealing" incident, Tinubu intervernes
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) under the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike has sealed off the Peoples Democratic Party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza on Monday due to the party’s failure to pay required taxes for 28 years of ground rents.

This is coming after the FCT minister declared that he would withdraw from every agreement with the PDP and will fight till justice is served.

Administration officials had previously been at the Federal Inland Revenue Service’s Wuse Zone 5 office, FIRS, where they had sealed the building due to a 25-year ground rent nonpayment.

Although the FIRS had reportedly opposed the decision of the FCTA, accusing it of witch-hunt, and maintaining it had paid all fees up till 2023, the administration also urged the Service to show its documentation of payments.

The Nyseom Wike administration had, in March, revoked 4,794 property titles for failing to pay their ground rents from 10 to 43 years including the PDP secretariat from today, May 26, 2025.

Among the properties also sealed by the FCT minister, Wike’s administration due to decades of non-payment of ground rent, was a bank branch and a gas station in Wuse District.

According to FCTA officials, the bank had not paid ground rent on the facility for 34 years.

A well-known hotel in the region was also closed by officials for failing to pay ground rentals for 26 years.

Thousands more others who owed less than ten years were given a 21-day grace period to make payments or risk similar penalties.

As of last Friday, the government was still balancing its books to determine who had made payments during the grace period.

Nonetheless, the administration had stated that it would start reclaiming the 4,794 homes whose titles had been annulled on Monday.

Following this, Lere Olayinka, the FCT minister’s senior special assistant on public communication and social media, pooh-poohed rumours that the action might have been politically motivated because of the PDP crisis, in which Nyesom Wike, the minister, is one of the players.
