The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revealed the intensed level of pressure he placed on his project team during the execution of key FCT road projects, stating that one of his project coordinators endured many sleepless nights to deliver results.
Wike, disclosed this during the commissioning of the newly and upgraded Ushafa to War College/Army Check Point Roads in Bwari Area Council, 2025 as part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure in the FCT.
According to Wike: “Mr President the Coordinator of STP is a young man and i pity him, I have never allowed him to sleep one day, never. I said you cannot be nominated to hold a position like this, it’s not to come and carry ‘chop’ you must work, so you must make sacrifices so that those who recommended you will not be disappointed.
According to the minister, public service is not a place for leisure or entitlement, but for dedication and sacrifice—especially when trusted with national development.
“Mr President, I can tell you today that this young man has not disappointed anybody. I hardly talk about people. When you hear me say that somebody is doing well, it means that the person is doing well.
“There are people you give position and they think that it’s just for publicity, there are people you give position and they take it as an opportunity to express themselves that they have the capacity to work.
Wike acknowledged that the coordinator went above and beyond to prove himself, stating:
“It’s not that I’m the coordinator, it’s not that i’m the Mandate Secretary, this young man has shown that he has capacity and trust me he will deliver. I want to commend him for the good, he’s done well and that is what i have always told people that it’s not written on anybody’s face – who will do well is not written on their face – it’s when you have the opportunity and you show it that you have capacity.
In a more humorous tone, Wike addressed the possible impact of the intense workload on the personal life of the coordinator.
“I gave him problems. I don’t know whether he has a wife because if he has, I will be pitying the wife, the man will not be happy. So, if he has a wife, I want to apologize that i gave your husband so much trouble, so much sleepless nights but it’s a good one.
Wike also appreciated the constant support from the Vice President and the presidency at large, noting that it has helped drive consistent progress in infrastructure and development across the FCT.
“You have shown the people of FCT that you mean well for them and your support is enormous, you as the Vice President, you have always encouraged me and given me support to do my work.”
However, the commissioning of the FCT road projects, including the Ushafa-War College Road, marks another milestone in the ongoing transformation of the FCT’s infrastructure. With continued commitment from leadership, more developments are expected in the near future. As a result, the residents are already seeing visible improvements.
These infrastructure efforts are part of a boarder development push aimed at improving transportation, accessibility, and urban planning within the Capital Territory with continued efforts and leadership support, the FCT is poised for even greater transformation in the months ahead.
Infrastructure remains a top priority in the FCT. Residents can expect more projects to be delivered in coming months.
