Fubara sparks outrage after shocking dissolution of Rivers pensions board, shifts duties to accountant-general’s office

Rivers Governor Fubara has officially disbanded the state pensions board inaugurated by Ibok-Ete Ibas, former Rivers sole administrator on September 12, effective immediately.

The head of service, Inyingi Brown, said in a statement on Friday that until a new board is established, the duties of the current one will be assumed by the office of the accountant-general.

The declaration, which was made in Port Harcourt, instructed the members of the disbanded board to turn over to the director of administration everything of their possessions, including assets and records.

Members of the disbanded board were instructed to turn over all of their possessions, including records and assets, to the director of administration, according to the announcement made in Port Harcourt.

As at the time of report, no reason was given for the dissolution.

The statement reads, “The executive governor of Rivers state, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has approved the immediate dissolution of the Rivers State Pensions Board,” the statement reads.

“Consequently, the office of the accountant-general of Rivers state, henceforth, will handle the functions of the board.

“Members of the defunct board are by this notice advised to hand over all properties and assets of the board in their possession to the director of administration of the board.

“His Excellency, the executive governor, will in due course constitute a new board to manage the affairs of pensions,” it added.

The dissolution is Fubara’s first significant order since President Bola Tinubu reinstated him on September 17.
