The Rivers State Government has declared that the process of moving from emergency rule to democratic governance and the anticipated reinstatement of Governor Fubara has begun.

In a statement, Prof. Ibibia Lucky Worika, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), welcomed all important parties to a church service as a part of the transition process.

The development comes nearly six months after President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the state.

Recall that tensions between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his estranged political godfather, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, led to the imposition of the emergency rule during the state’s most acute political crisis.

Following the political crisis in the state President Tinubu, in his broadcast, expressed deep concern over the political crisis in the state and accused Fubara of demolishing the State House of Assembly.

He then suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months and appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd) as Administrator to oversee the state’s affairs.

However, with the recent reconciliation of Fubara and Nyseom Wike and the emergency rule coming to its end, as part of the activities, an interdenominational church thanksgiving service will be held on Sunday at the Ecumenical Centre, Abonima Wharf Road, Port Harcourt.

Permanent secretaries, heads of security and paramilitary forces, chairmen and members of boards and governing councils, traditional leaders, captains of industry, and local government chairmen are among those invited, the statement said.

Additionally, the announcement designated Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), the Rivers Administrator, as the Special Guest of Honour.
