The Chief of Staff to the suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Edison Ehie on Sunday, revealed that he had directed his lawyer to sue the former Rivers State Head of Service, George Nwaeke, over claims that they masterminded the attack and subsequent demolition of the Rivers state House of Assembly Complex.

Fubara’s chief of staff ,Ehie who was the former Assembly leader before his appointment as chief of staff, made the statement when he was featured as a guest on a Television programme known as Politics Today.

He disclosed this information while responding to the previous claims made by Nwaeke stating that he(Nwaeke) witnessed a bag of money given to him(Ehie) by the governor to allegedly burn down the Assembly Complex at Moscow Road in Port Harcourt, Rivers state

He said, “I will not join issues completely with George Nwaeke because I had already instructed my lawyer to file issues of criminal libel against him and I hope he is very prepared to come and substantiate his claim and his allegations if it were.

“Mind you, I am not holding brief for my principal in this interview. But it’s very important to clarify that I had no hand nor was I a part of the burning down of the Rivers State House of Assembly. Like everyone else, I woke up in the early hours of October 30, 2023, to hear of it.

“It is unfortunate that George Nweke, to satisfy his hunger or emergency reaches at his age having served for over 35 years, can be bullied into making such allegations. To note that the world has seen that he was not speaking from his right frame of mind, moment after his interview, we watched where his wife, who supposedly should be the closest person to him, was interviewed crying and mentioning names in that video.”

Recall that the wife of the ex Rivers head of service was previously seen in a video crying, stating that her husband was in trouble. She voiced concerns over his whereabouts and expressed her surprise after watching his interview, further stating that that is not her husband.

Fubara’s chief of staff stressed that Nwaeke’s comments were clearly not made in his right mind, further debunking the notion that Nwaeke was truly informed about certain intimate political conversations and strategic dealings, with his principal, Fubara.

Fubara’s chief of staff said, “That is not true. Nwaeke had no political or intimate relationship with us, the governor of Rivers State elected nor myself. You know that Nwaeke was a civil servant and his responsibilities are clearly outlined. As head of service, the closest he got to the governor was at the executive council meeting.

“And if he has something that he wanted to relay to the governor, which ‘relates to civil servant’, he needs to seek an appointment with the governor and be cleared by the DSS in charge of security in government. George Nwaeke and myself, nor the governor, had never had any meeting, jointly or separately at all. Not to talk of something as far-reaching as political discussions.

“He is not a politician. Nwaeke does not even partake in critical local government political discussions. He has never been part of us politically. So at what point are we going to sit down with George Nwaeke to discuss issues? They just needed somebody who has the same level of hierarchy in government to score cheap and unfair political points.”

Meanwhile, the ex Rivers head of state has also stated that he will provide evidences of state funds embezzled under the now suspended Governor Fubara’s administration during his first two years in office.

Nwaeke said, “I cannot also give all my evidence to the media, some are sensitive. I will give details to the proper authorities when required of me.

“The level of stealing of public funds and assets witnessed in the last two years is mind-boggling.

“I have never experienced it in the history of the state as we also had the highest allocation ever within this period.”
