The national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party and former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has criticised the current wave of opposition politicians defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Accusing the defectors of selfishness, he called the development the worst political sin and the greatest betrayal of the people.

When hundreds of Takai Local Government supporters of Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila refused to accompany the senator to the APC, Kwankwaso made the statement at his Miller Road home in Kano on Friday night.
According to reports, several NNPP national and state lawmakers have defected to the APC in Kano and Bauchi states, including Kawu, who serves as the National Assembly representative for the Kano South Senatorial District.
Kwankwaso stated, “Kano South is a lesson,” but he did not specifically name the defectors. Voters were patient enough to cast their ballots for the NNPP despite rejecting spaghetti, N200, and atamfa (wrappers).

He said, “But those who won the election among us decided to abandon the masses and join those who do not have the people at heart but are only after what they will gain for themselves and their families.
“There is no worse political sin than leaving the party that gave you the opportunity and support, only to later abandon it. This is the highest level of betrayal.”
Kwankwaso further cautioned young people to avoid these politicians because they are only interested in enhancing their own wealth and are not concerned with their welfare.
All those who betrayed the Kwankwasiyya Movement would eventually regret their actions, the former governor added, praising the NNPP members for their bravery in sticking with the party.
Hashimu Dungurawa, the Kano State NNPP Chairman while speaking, praised the party members for their correct action and promised them fair treatment within the party.
