Jonathan, Buhari Attend Council of State Meeting at Aso Rock.
Former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari participated in the inaugural Council of State meeting of President Bola Tinubu’s administration at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting also saw Generals Yakubu Gowon (retd) and Abdulsalami Abubakar join virtually, along with the governors of Abia, Adamawa, and Akwa Ibom States.
The Council of State includes the sitting President, Vice President, all living former Heads of State and Presidents, former Chief Justices of Nigeria, the President of the Senate, Speaker of the House of Representatives, state governors, and the Attorney-General of the Federation. It advises the federal government on key policy issues.
Scheduled to begin at 12:35 pm, the meeting aims to tackle critical national matters such as food security, national security, and economic policies. The last Council of State meeting was held on February 10, 2023, during Buhari’s tenure.
