Barely 24 hours after an alleged attack on the Kano Emir’s Palace known as Gidan Rumfa, some civil society organizations have expressed deep concern over what they describe as the “suspicious silence” of the police on the matter.

The incident reportedly happened on Sunday evening when the dethroned Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, was returning from a condolence visit to the home of late business tycoon, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata.

The former Emir’s convoy allegedly passed in front of the palace at Kofar Kudu, deviating from the usual route to his personal residence in Mandawari.

Civil Society groups, led by One KANO Agenda, said the palace was attacked during this time by individuals believed to be part of the dethroned Emir’s convoy.

They called on the police to speak up and clarify what really happened.

In a joint statement on Monday, the CSOs said the silence of the police on such a serious issue could endanger the peace of the state.

“We find it strange and disturbing that up till now, the police have not issued any statement on the attack on Gidan Rumfa. Their silence is suspicious and raises concerns about possible complicity or negligence,”the group said.

The group warned that failure to address such issues transparently could plunge the state into avoidable tension.
