The Labour Party’s (LP) Lagos State chapter has expressed confidence saying it is certain it will win the local government elections on July 12 if they are held in a fair manner.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Sunday, Mr Olusupo Ajayi, the party’s deputy chairman in Lagos State, made this claim.
According to NAN, 26 candidates for chairmanships from the Labour Party group led by Julius Abure surfaced on Friday in preparation for the next local elections.

The chairmanship elections for all 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas have been set for July 12 by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).
Ajayi confirmed the party’s resolve to run a vigorous campaign for victory and described the delegate-based primaries, which were held in 26 local councils, as successful and peaceful. He added that the Labour Party is confident its 26 candidates can win, as Lagos residents still believe in the party’s vision.
“Recall that we had the highest number of votes in Lagos during the 2023 presidential election.”
“This is a grassroots election, and we aim to bring positive change, even as we face the challenge of running against the ruling party,” Ajayi said.

He declared that the party would mobilise people and conduct a vigorous, effective campaign throughout the state’s local communities while abiding by the law.
In the event that the party wins the council elections, Ajayi promised to keep interacting with the public to guarantee community-based governance.
He claimed that the Labour Party’s involvement is a component of its endeavour to bring governance back to the people and rebuild public trust in politics.
“In the end, we will all return to dust. What we leave behind is goodwill for our children and future generations.
“I hope she maintains her integrity so her legacy and goodwill can endure for generations to come,” he added.
