Lukman Quits APC, Citing Inability to Win Elections Fairly.

Salihu Moh. Lukman, a former Director General of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) and immediate-past National Vice Chairman, Northwest, of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has left the party, citing its inability to win elections without rigging.

In a statement issued in Kaduna titled “APC and The Future of Nigerian Democracy: Letter to Selected APC Leaders,” Lukman expressed deep concerns about the party’s current state and its governance under President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He criticized the erosion of party structures and unpopular government policies that have worsened living conditions for Nigerians.

Lukman emphasized that based on current trends, the APC and its affiliated governments are losing popularity rapidly, making election victories without rigging increasingly improbable. He highlighted widespread sentiments that President Tinubu might be a one-term leader and warned of potential social upheavals before 2027.

Given these circumstances, Lukman advocated for a renewed focus on building a robust party organization that can effectively oversee elected officials, rather than subordinating party goals to individual leaders.

Concluding his statement, Lukman declared his decision to leave the APC, stating that his continued membership had become ineffectual. He expressed readiness to collaborate with like-minded Nigerians committed to promoting and safeguarding democracy in the country
