Minister Commends Army War College Graduates on National Security

The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, has called on the graduates of the Army War College Course 8/2024 to take up the mantle of leadership in safeguarding Nigeria’s national security. His statement came during the graduation ceremony held at the Army War College in Abuja, where participants of the 35-week intensive course were celebrated for their commitment, strategic insight, and resilience.

Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the event, Badaru praised the graduates for their dedication and the hard work they put into their training. He emphasized that their newly acquired skills would be critical in addressing the security challenges Nigeria currently faces and in advancing the nation’s overall security objectives.

A Rigorous Journey to Success

The Army War College Course 8/2024 is recognized for its rigorous curriculum designed to groom officers into leaders capable of operating at both operational and strategic levels. The graduates underwent a comprehensive 35-week program that covered national security, military strategy, and operational art, preparing them to take on leadership roles in the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Badaru acknowledged their efforts and sacrifices during this period, noting that their perseverance had paid off with the completion of the course. He highlighted the significance of their transformation from tactical-level leaders to strategic thinkers who can influence national security outcomes.

“It is a great honor to stand before you today and celebrate the remarkable achievements of our graduates,” the Minister said. “Your journey to this moment involved 35 weeks of rigorous training, intellectual stimulation, growth, and personal sacrifice. Today is a testament to your resilience and commitment to excellence.”

Leadership: The Core of Military Service

During his speech, Badaru stressed the importance of leadership within the military, pointing out that the graduates’ new roles would go beyond following orders. Instead, they are now expected to inspire, guide, and lead others in pursuit of a common goal—protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity and promoting peace and security.

“As graduates of the Army War College Nigeria, you are now equipped with the tools that will enable you to lead and navigate the geostrategic landscape,” he said. “Leadership is the cornerstone of military service, extending beyond mere orders to inspiring and guiding others toward a common goal.”

Preparing for Complex Challenges

Badaru also spoke about the rapidly evolving global security environment, noting that the challenges faced by the graduates would be increasingly complex, unpredictable, and ambiguous. He urged them to face these challenges with confidence and determination, using the skills they have acquired during their time at the War College.

“The world is constantly evolving, and the challenges we face are increasingly complex and ambiguous,” the Minister said. “As officers skilled in operational-level planning, you will encounter uncertain and often perilous situations. I thus encourage you to embrace these challenges with confidence, aptitude, and determination.”

Appreciation and Encouragement

In his address, the Minister extended his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support of the Nigerian military. He also acknowledged the contributions of the Chief of Army Staff, the Governing Board of the Army War College, the Commandant, faculty members, and the families of the graduates, whose sacrifices were instrumental in making the course a success.

As he concluded his speech, Badaru congratulated the graduates, reminding them of the bright future ahead of them. He expressed confidence that they would serve the nation with distinction, contributing to its peace and security in the years to come.

“Your future is bright,” he said. “I have no doubt that you will all serve our nation with distinction.”
