PDP blows hot over “national secretariat sealing” incident, Tinubu intervernes
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) accused the Federal Government yesterday of blatant abuse of power after the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) decided to seal the party’s national secretariat due to its failure to pay required payments for 28 years of land rent.
PDP leaders declared that if the government persisted in harassing the party over the ground rent, they were prepared to be arrested.

However, President Bola Tinubu intervened and gave the party and other accused defaulters a reprieve, giving them 14 days to organise their paperwork.
Following an emergency caucus meeting on Monday night at the Bauchi Governors’ Lodge in Abuja, the condemnation was made.
Umar Iliya Damagum, the party’s Acting National Chairman, called the office sealing a rash attempt to erode democracy and said the party is ready for any more provocations, including arrests.

In addition to criticising the government’s actions, Damagum dared the FCTA to arrest party members and promised that the party would not take the situation lightly.
He said, “We will not take this lightly. They could come and arrest all of us; we are prepared. This is a clear attempt to undermine democracy, and we will hold them accountable.

“If they are encouraging such actions, we do not take it lightly. They are attempting to undermine democracy, and this is completely unacceptable. This is a clear example of the irresponsibility exhibited by this government. We condemn this act in the strongest terms. It is a reckless display of irresponsibility, and we will not tolerate it.”
The conflict has only made the PDP crisis worse, which many see as endangering the opposition party’s unity and course.
