Peter Obi Cries Out Over Blocked Humanitarian Visit.
Peter Obi, Labour Party Presidential aspirant to the 2023 general elections, has poured his lamentations over the conduct of his visitation to Benue state.
Obi stated on his X page on Monday that he is particularly saddened by the manner the Benue State Government reacted to his planned courtesy call and visit to internally displaced persons (IDPs) camps and health facilities in the state.

He stated: “Ordinarily, I wouldn’t have commented on the matter, having seen many worse situations in the course of my political life since I declared intention for the presidency, and they keep getting worse as I attempt to do this in civilized and organized ways. So the events are unfolding thus, and it is time to start vocalizing.
“Today (April 14), I am not so sure that the governor of Benue State, my dear young brother, a Reverend Father I hold in deep respect, is aware of what has transpired. I have exhausted all means to reach him, hence the need to use this platform.”
“On Thursday, 10 April 2025, I was to go to Plateau and Benue State. Plateau on Sunday 13 April 2025 and Benue on Monday 14 April 2025.
The trip consisted of courtesy calls on the governors and visiting the IDP camps and schools of nursing in both states to render support.
“As is my tradition, I informed the government of Plateau State about my visit, which included spending time with the victims at the IDP camp in Bokkos, a visit I embraced wholeheartedly to express support, care, and compassion to fellow Nigerians in need. And, of course, the governor of Plateau State graciously allowed.

In the same manner, I have in the past tried to reach the governor of Benue State directly without any success. I then managed to reach his ADC, who told me that the governor was in a very important meeting and would call me before midnight on the same day.
“Unfortunately, I did not get to hear from him until Sunday, when he messaged me that he had not been able to reach his principal since the day I called. I became disturbed that an ADC could not reach his principal for 3 days.
“Nonetheless, as the courtesy visit to the governor was just out of respect, it was impelling that I would continue my trip to Makurdi.
“I left Jos early this morning, at 7 am, but on reaching Akwanga at about 10 am, my security team stopped and said they received a press statement, purportedly from the Benue State Government, which appeared calculated to foil my trip. Curious while I was talking to my security team on the matter, the Governors ADC sent the statement directly to me.

“The letter refers exactly to my itinerary which I had earlier conveyed to the ADC directly and to the security operatives in Benue through my own security.”
