Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, has reaffirmed that he is still a party member even though he is part of a new political alliance.
Obi clarified the matter in an appearance on Channels Television on Sunday, denying rumours that he had defected from the Laour Party due to his involvement in the coalition led by the African Democratic Congress, or ADC.
Peter Obi, who joined the Labour Party in advance of the 2023 elections, recently joined a number of well-known political figures in the ADC-led alliance, which aims to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming general election.

Notable political figures including; Rivers State Governor Chibuike Amaechi, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Senate President David Mark, and former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar are also members of the alliance.
“Today, I’m an LP member and I remain in LP, but we have all agreed to work together in coalition for the 2027 election, and for that, we have adopted ADC,” Peter Obi said.
This is coming after the Labour Party’s factional National Chairman, Julius Abure, recently sent a strong message, issuing a 48 hour ultimatum for Peter Obi and other members of ADC as the coalition’s platform to resign.

Abure also called on Dr. Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State, to cease “deceiving members of the public” regarding his allegiance in the same statement, alleging that Otti had joined the coalition party’s caretaker committee.
According to Abure, the leadership of the Labour Party is acting quickly to realign and refocus the party in preparation for the 2027 elections.
Meanwhile, the former presidential candidate has declared that if he wins the presidency, the northern part of Nigeria will celebrate.
He stated that Nigeria’s northern area, which consists of 19 states with a large amount of fertile land and a sizable voting base, has the most unrealised potential. But he pointed out that ongoing insecurity has long weakened these benefits.
Peter Obi said, “We have voted for incompetence, we’ve voted for tribe, (and) we’ve voted for religion; let’s vote for competence.

“I want them to trust me. The biggest asset of this country is in the north, the uncultivated lands in the north. The criminality we face in the north today, I will deal with it.
“If I am president, the North will celebrate me. I have an idea of the problem.”
