Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, has called on the Federal Government to reform Nigeria’s security structure.
According to him, the federal government can achieve this by granting governors more control over combating insecurity across the states.
In response to Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal’s claims that he is aware of the precise whereabouts of bandit leaders but has the power to take action, Obi called the circumstance a “stark reflection of the systemic weakness of our security architecture.”
Peter Obi stated late Saturday on his verified X handle that it was intolerable for a state’s chief security officer to be treated as a “mere spectator” while the populace is left to the mercy of criminals.
“I have repeatedly called for a restructuring of our security framework to make it more responsive, decentralised, and effective.”
The Federal Government must, as a matter of urgency, give Governor Dauda and other governors across the federation all the support they need to secure their states and safeguard the lives of Nigerians,” Obi said.

He emphasised that the defence of people and property must be the top priority for the government.
