Peter Obi of the Labour Party has come under fire from former presidential aide and political analyst Reno Omokri, who claims that the former governor of Anambra State lacks the moral authority to criticise Nigeria’s educational system in the wake of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results.
Omokri stated this in response to Peter Obi’s demand for “aggressive” education investment in reaction to the poor national performance by claiming that Obi’s governance as governor from 2006 to 2014 exacerbated the identical educational deterioration he now decries.
Omokri further alleged that Peter Obi is afraid of educated voters hence he did not build schools during his tenure as Anambara state governor.
Taking to his X account, Omokri wrote ” Only politicians who are afraid of educated voters refuse to build schools. Because they know that once voters are educated, they will start asking questions and can no longer be manipulated by empty slogans, such as ‘Go and verify’. That is why someone like Peter Obi did not build a single nursery, primary, secondary school, university, or stand-alone hospital in his eight years as Anambra Governor. But he built two breweries.
He knows that as long as the voter is drunk, they can be convinced against logic to believe that a man who increased the poverty rate of Anambra will reduce the poverty rate of Nigeria.”
In a different tweet, Omokri slammed Peter Obi yet again saying, “A Man Who Did Not Build a Single School Is Complaining About JAMB Score? Dear Peter Obi,
“You are part of the problem. You cannot complain about a problem you caused. You were Governor of Anambra State for eight years and did not build even one single nursery, primary, secondary, or university, and you also did not build a standalone hospital.
Instead, you allowed 486 Exam Miracle Centres to thrive under you, with your avid cooperation, until your successor, Willie Obiano, closed them down in 2014. You now call for “aggressive” investment in education, but while you were Governor, your only aggressive investment was building two non-loss-making beer breweries.
Therefore, you lack the moral authority to complain or call out the incumbent government and lack the moral compass to provide solutions.
If this were an issue of a beer brewery and drunkenness, you could talk because that is your area of specialty. However, please maintain your peace while morally and professionally qualified persons speak about this.”
