Rivers State Administrator Ibok-Ete Ibas describes Saturday’s LG election as a crucial step towards restoring democratic administration at the grassroots level and says it was calm and orderly.
According to reports, Ibas kept monitored the exercise in a number of local government districts, including Port Harcourt, Ahoada East, and Emohua.
He told reporters during the election that the way voters and election officials behaved made the polling place safe and peaceful.

According to the administrator, reports from the 23 LGAs supported his findings and indicated that the exercise was mainly incident-free.
“I am very happy with what I have witnessed today,” Ibas said.
“The process has been notably peaceful, from the significant turnout to the orderly conduct of both voters and election officials. I am confident that at the end of the day, we will have a credible set of results that we will all be proud of as a state.

“Facilitating this foundational tier of democracy is a core objective of my mandate: to put the state back on a stable, democratic path and empower its people.”
The Supreme Court had previously ruled that there was insufficient proof to demonstrate that the requirements outlined in section 150(3) of the Election Act had been fulfilled prior to the RSIEC conducting the polls.
Recall that in March, President Bola Tinubu suspended Fubara, his deputy, and the legislative arm for six months over an alleged political crisis in the state.
Ibas was then designated by the president as the sole administrator, with a six-month tenure limit.
