Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has allegedly moved his family to Bayelsa State following President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.

This development follows President Tinubu’s decision on March 18 to suspend Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months to restore governance and stability in the State.

The state of emergency was declared after months of escalating political tension in Rivers State, fueled by an intense rivalry between predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

The ongoing crisis has resulted in violent clashes, legislative deadlock and legal conflicts that have severely disrupted the State’s administration. In response, president Tinubu suspended key officials in an attempt to curb the instability.

According to sources cited by the Street Journal, Bayelsa Sate Governor Douye Diri has reportedly offered refuge to Fubara and his family amid the crisis.

On Wednesday, March 19, Siminalayi and his family relocated to the Bayelsa State Government House, departing from the Rivers Sate Government House in Port Harcourt.

The relocation took place under reduced security, with some Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) and security personnel remaining stationed at the premises. However, the Government House was reportedly calm following their departure.

In response to the escalating crisis, President Tinubu appointed former Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, as the sole administrator of Rivers State.

Ibas has been tasked with managing the State’s affairs during the six month emergency period. His appointment is untended to address the ongoing political crisis and restore stability in Rivers State, which has been plagued by internal conflicts and dispute between the governor and lawmakers.
