Rivers : Sole administrator unveils state secretariat upgrade
Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, the sole administrator of Rivers State, has announced plans for the State Secretariat Complex’s gradual refurbishment as part of his administration’s larger effort to improve worker welfare and public service delivery.
At the closing ceremony of a four-day Transformational Leadership Training Workshop, which his administration organised in collaboration with the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies(NIPSS), Ibas made this announcement.

The goal of the Port Harcourt workshop was to give directors, senior public officers, local government administrators, and permanent secretaries better leadership skills so they could spearhead successful governance reforms.
The sole administrator pointed out that in order to foster quality and productivity in public service, a favourable physical work environment is just as important as capacity-building.
Ibas declared that the State Secretariat would be renovated in stages to provide a contemporary, effective, and respectable work environment.
In order to effectively motivate civil servants within the constraints of the resources at hand, he also revealed that the state’s public sector welfare policy is currently being reviewed.
With a focus on accountability and outcomes, he gave them two weeks to submit development plans.
According to Ibas, the Auditor-General for Local Governments would be given more authority to closely oversee resource use in order to guarantee openness and responsible financial management. This will guarantee that every naira spent results in real advantages for the residents of Rivers State.
