Temitope Ajayi, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, has said that without President Bola Tinubu’s crucial backing, former President Muhammadu Buhari would not have been able to win the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress, or APC.

Ajayi’s comments come after those of SGF Boss Mustapha, the immediate past Secretary to the Government of the Federation, at the launch of a book on media and publicity written by Mallam Garba Shehu, a former Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari.

Mustapha stated during the ceremony that Buhari’s ascent to the presidency was not the result of any one person.

Mustapha pointed out that before the 2015 elections, Buhari had 12.5 million votes from a devoted base, and the heritage parties that made up the APC had another 3 million votes.

He claimed that this combined power produced the roughly 15 million votes that allowed Buhari to overcome Goodluck Jonathan, the incumbent president of the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP.

Ajayi responded to Mustapha’s remarks by calling them a misrepresentation of recent political history using his verified X account @TheTope_Ajayi.

“Let us even leave the general election that then-General Buhari won to become president in 2015. There is no way he would have won the election to be president without first becoming the presidential candidate of his party, APC,” Ajayi said.

He further underlined that without Tinubu’s help, Buhari would not have won the APC primary in 2014 at Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.

Ajayi asserts that Tinubu played a key role in mobilising South West delegates and APC governors to back Buhari’s campaign.

The activities of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai, former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami, SAN, and Buhari supporters are cited by some political analysts as proof of the APC’s growing anti-Tinubu sentiment.
