“Tinubu Outsmarted Buhari, Became President – Ojudu”
Babafemi Ojudu, former presidential adviser on political matters, said that in 2022, former President Muhammadu Buhari was outplayed by President Bola Tinubu.
Ojudu stated that Buhari did not back Tinubu’s then Vice President Yemi Osinbajo during the All-Progressives Congress, APC, presidential primary election.
He contends that Tinubu’s many ways have defeated Buhari in picking the party’s ticket and eventually becoming president.
He made the revelation as a guest at Edmund Obilo’s podcast tagged ‘State Affairs’ on Monday evening.
To Ojudu, “I knew from the very beginning that there was going to be a lost battle for Osinbajo in the primary; I saw it coming.
“That is why I was always saying at our meetings: All this travelling to convince people with talking to delegates is for just 40 percent about the system that we were operating and still go on with it. Sixty percent lie in Buhari’s hands unless and until Buhari mobilizes people around him, governors, his aides; we are going nowhere.
“I called Buhari a one-man majority, and he never used his team to rally around Osinbajo; I believe even Tinubu outmaneuvered him in a number of ways.”
Rumors were rife that the ex-Senate President Ahmad Lawan would prove better than Osinbajo and Tinubu in the run-up to the elections in 2023.
But when the counting was done at the primary election, close to 1,271 votes were recorded for Tinubu against 316 for former Minister of Transport Rotimi Ameachi, with Osinbajo bringing up the rear by 235 votes, while Lawan landed last with a mere 152 votes.
