Despite the heavy backlash and criticism that has trailed President Bola Tinubu’s official visit to Brazil from August 24 to 25, 2025, which marks his third trip to the South American powerhouse within a single year, SA to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare , has strongly defended this trip.

He listed the main arguments for why the visit is not only appropriate but also necessary for Nigeria’s development. “This is President Tinubu’s third trip to Brazil, and he has a good reason for it,” Dare confirmed. “It demonstrates a renewed and concentrated effort to create long-lasting economic integration between our nations—a process that began under President Obasanjo 21 years ago and has accelerated under President Tinubu.”
Dare drew attention to the striking similarities between Brazil and Nigeria, pointing out that both countries have similar populations (212 million and 225 million, respectively) and that Brazil is a world leader in renewable energy and mechanised agriculture. He pointed out that Brazil has 238 million cattle, which is even greater than its population of people. “We can learn a lot from this agribusiness success as we grow our livestock industry.”

“This visit is critical to opening the economic chapter of our relationship with Brazil,” Sunday Dare said. “It’s about transforming historic and cultural ties into practical, mutually beneficial investments that will boost Nigeria’s growth and global standing.”
Speaking on the same show, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani emphasised the substantial advantages anticipated from this crucial visit.
He underlined that important topics including skill development, aviation, renewable energy, agriculture, and industrial investment will be covered in the talks. Sani emphasised Kaduna State’s leadership in Nigeria’s agricultural development, pointing out that the sector employs roughly 60% of the workforce and accounts for 42% of the state’s GDP.
Sani also gave President Tinubu credit for bringing the Nigerian economy back to stability, boosting investor confidence by clearing a $7 billion FX backlog, and enacting measures that make it easier for foreign and Nigerian investors to make investments. He is hopeful that the trip to Brazil will lead to agreements in a variety of areas, including renewable energy, agriculture, aviation, and investment.

Dare and Kaduna State Governor Sani continued their conversation by exchanging perspectives on Nigeria’s expanding collaboration with Brazil, particularly in the areas of agriculture, employment, and skill enhancement.
Dare on his part further highlighted Brazil’s position as a major agricultural powerhouse with more than 238 million cattle and the possibility of huge agro-mechanization through the adoption of 10,000 tractors and 50,000 farm implements.

The governor stressed that Nigeria’s cattle industry needed a cultural change, specifically a transition from nomadic herding to ranching. “I completely agree that we need to shift from what we do now or normally to what happens globally,” he said.
Due to similarities pointed out in youth development, oil and gas, and agriculture, Dare came concluded that Brazil offers Nigeria some of its best prospects. “Our opportunities and potentials are similar. I think this union will benefit our nation.
A number of Memoranda of Understanding are anticipated to be signed during the visit by President Tinubu’s team, which consists of senior officials and important ministers. These agreements seek to promote collaboration in fields crucial to Nigeria’s long-term growth and economic integration with the Global South.
