Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has stated that the decision and activities of the G5 governors aided in stabilising Nigeria after the 2023 election.
In the run-up to the 2023 election, the Wike-led G5, which consists of five sitting governors, declined to support their party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar (PDP).
Under Wike’s leadership, the group included Ifeanyi Uguanyi of Enugu State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Samuel Ortom of Benue, and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.

The governors’ complaint, which was based on the North-South zoning arrangement, hurt the PDP’s chances because they believed that the party’s 2023 presidential candidate ought to have come from the South rather than Atiku, who is from the North.
The G5’s actions helped the party lose since Wike and his associates publicly opposed the PDP and supported APC candidate and Southerner Bola Tinubu.
However, Wike claimed that the actions of the G5 governors in 2023 prevented Nigeria from going into crisis while speaking to PDP members from the 36 federation states and the Federal Capital Territory on Monday under the guise of “Concerned Stakeholders of the PDP.”

Despite the fact that their party’s candidate’s opponent benefited from the group’s decision, Wike stated that the G5 does not regret its conduct.
He said, “You may like us, you may hate us; the truth is if G5 did not take our decision, this country would have been in crisis.
“It doesn’t matter who the beneficiary was, but the right thing had to be done, and we still stand by that decision.
“We have continued to emphasise that the party’s constitution and that of the country should be respected.
