President Trump has described himself as the “Acting President of Venezuela,” igniting fresh round of controversy about his true intention for the oil-rich country.
The US president made this declaration on his Truth social media platform.
This comes just days after Trump issued an Executive Order declaring a national emergency to prevent judicial seizure or legal attachment of Venezuelan oil earnings held in US Treasury accounts.
According to President Trump, the action is intended to further US national security and foreign policy goals.

The Executive Order prohibits any attachment, judgement, lien, execution, garnishment, or other legal action against Venezuelan oil income and diluent sales deposited in US Treasury accounts, according to a statement from the White House.
Unless expressly permitted by the new directive, these funds, known as “Foreign Government Deposit Funds,” are to remain frozen.
Additionally, any transfer or dealing in the funds is forbidden by the order, which also supersedes previous directives that would have governed or limited such transactions.

The order states that the oil earnings are Venezuela’s sovereign property, held in US custody for diplomatic and governmental reasons, and cannot be claimed by private parties.
The U.S. Embassy had also warned that the security situation in Venezuela remained highly unstable and urged all U.S. citizens not to travel to the country and to depart immediately if already there.
Recall that US forces had invaded Venezuela’s capital city, taking President Maduro and his wife into custody for alleged drug trafficking and terrorism, a development that shocked the world.

Numerous international officials, including South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, have denounced the violation of Venezuelans’ sovereignty since Maduro was apprehended. The action has also been denounced by the UN, which emphasises that it may make all nations less secure.
Similarly, the US congress had also voted to stop President Trump from carrying out further military actions in Venezuela.
