Reps to dialogue on national security architecture Monday 16

A high-level legislative dialogue on national security architecture will be held today by the House of Representatives’ Constitution Review Committee in cooperation with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

Themed “Nigeria’s Peace and Security: The Constitutional Imperatives,” the dialogue will take place at the National Counter Terrorism Centre, Office of the National Security Adviser, Abuja.

Nigeria’s top officials, including National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Christopher Musa, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, Director-General of the Department of State Service (DSS) Oluwatosin Ajayi, and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency Amb. Mohammed Mohammed, are expected to attend the event, according to a statement released yesterday by House Spokesman Akin Rotimi.

Lawmakers, civil society groups, community leaders from frontier areas, and legal and policy specialists are also anticipated to attend.

The dialogue is a part of the House’s strategic efforts to use constitutional reform to address Nigeria’s complicated issues, especially with regard to legislation like HB-617, which would restructure the nation’s law enforcement system and establish a state police.
