Many residents and motorists have been left stranded as heavy flood sweeps Abuja. The flood was triggered by heavy downpour which has now affected key areas of the FCT.
Areas affected included Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent, Delight Event Centre in Gudu, and Efab Estate in Lokogoma, where floodwaters overwhelmed roads and surrounding areas.
The Gaduwa-Durumi bridge also became heavily flooded, leaving motorists stranded and disrupting traffic.
Videos circulating social media have revealed that the flooding forced businesses in affected areas to shut down, while some vehicles suffered damage after floodwaters submerged them.
A homeowner also shared a video showing the Ebeano-Gudu Road and the bridge linking the two areas submerged in floodwater.
Calling for urgent intervention from the FCT Minister in a video clip, the homeowner said, “Dear Honourable Minister of the FCT, please come to our rescue. This is the current situation of Ebeano/Gudu Road. The bridge is flooded.”
“People coming from Gudu junction can’t cross, people coming from Ebeano can’t get to Gudu. Mr Project, please come and help us.”

The flood sweeps Abuja amid warnings from the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet) about possible flooding during the 2026 rainy season.
The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NiHSA) also warned that flooding could worsen between August and September.
Its Annual Flood Outlook identified Abuja as vulnerable to flash flooding and listed the FCT among areas facing a high flood risk.
The Federal Government has urged Nigerians to prepare for possible flooding, warning that climate change is making heavy rainfall more frequent and intense and could overwhelm existing drainage systems.

Uyo, Lagos Flood
Following the recent downpour, severe flash floods have impacted several communities across Akwa Ibom State, destroying homes, household properties, and livestock.
Residents of Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State, have urged the state administration to find a long-term solution to the city’s ongoing flooding.
Simultaneously, parts of Lagos state are currently devastated as floodwaters have swept through several communities in the State following hours of heavy rainfall.
This has resulted in submerged homes and roads, disrupted movement and completely knocking out power across parts of the state.
Earlier videos spotted on social media showed flooded streets in areas including; FESTAC, Gbagada, Evans, Olushi, Anikantamo and Adeniji Adele on the Lagos Island, with residents wading through waterlogged roads and motorists struggling to navigate submerged streets.
