Rivers SSG, Benibo Anabraba Quits PDP as Fubara-Wike Crisis Deepens

Dr. Benibo Anabraba, the Rivers SSG, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) amid renewed crisis between the state governor and the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike.

This was contained in a letter that was sent to the PDP Chairman in Ward 1 of the state’s Akuku-Toru Local Government Area on January 5, 2026.

According to the letter, Benibo Anabrab’s decision to quit the main opposition party is “personal”.

The Rivers SSG expressed appreciation for the “political leverage gained from the party during the period of my membership”.

Although the Rivers SSG did not state his next political party, it is suspected that he had joined the ruling All Progressives Congress APC.

According to the reports, since state governor Siminalayi Fubara quit the opposition party, a large number of PDP members have defected to the ruling party.

Meanwhile, the Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and his estranged political son Governor Fubara are once again at odds, and the state is currently experiencing another political crisis.
