The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has vowed that no one will prevent him from challenging Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s re-election ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking during a visit to Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State on Sunday, Wike alleged that Fubara reneged on agreements twice, adding that the mistakes of 2023 would not be repeated.
He also emphasized that during his tenure as Rivers State Governor, the state successfully challenged the federal government on several issues, asserting that Rivers State held the upper hand during his administration.
He said “I heard people saying that they will call me and give me instructions. Let me tell you, there is nothing like instruction as far as Rivers State is concerned. Nobody will call me.
“You had the first agreement, somebody reneged, second agreement, he reneged, then which call will you accept again? We will not make that mistake again.
“It has nothing to do with me as a person. As a minister of the Federal Capital Territory, I’m very comfortable.
“It is about the people. When I was governor, Rivers State was respected nationally. When I speak at that time, you will know that Rivers State is in charge.
“When I was governor, I challenged the Federal Government and we won. Now that the opposition has collapsed, everybody is now shouting on your mandate, why didn’t you shout on your mandate since?”
It was reported that Wike and Fubara resumed their face-off recently as the incumbent governor plans for re-election in 2027.
