PDP Defection: Ortom’s ally fully resigns from party

Former Benue governor Chief Samuel Ortom’s (2015–2023) Finance and Budget Commissioner Mr. David Olofu has resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

In an announcement of his resignation, Olofu personally signed a letter to the chairman of Edikwu Ward 2 in the Apa Local Government Area, which he gave to reporters in Makurdi on Wednesday.

He served as Nigeria’s Forum of State Commissioners for Finance’s previous chairman from 2019 to 2023.

Olofu stated that he decided to quit the party in order to enjoy his constitutionally guaranteed freedom of association under the Federal Republic of Nigerian Constitution.

“I write to inform you of my decision to resign as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with effect from 30th June, 2025.

“This decision has become necessary as I move to exercise my right to freedom of association enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“I have done this in the interest of Edikwu Ward 2, Apa Local Government Area, Benue South Senatorial District, and indeed Benue State,” he said.
