Bashir Ahmad, the ex-presidential aide to former president Muhammadu Buhari, has stirred up the political waters with controversial statements comparing infrastructural development between Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar\u2019Adua, Goodluck Jonathan, and Buhari.<\/strong><\/h6>\n

All of this started when Bashir Ahmad came across a post by PDPrepublic on X (formerly Twitter) that strongly supported the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The post had pictures of Obasanjo, Jonathan, and Yar’Adua and the caption \u201cThe last time Nigeria was in good hands.\u201d<\/p>\n

The post seemingly referred to the economic position of Nigeria being in a good state when the PDP leaders were at the helm of affairs. However, Bashir Ahmad wasn’t having any of that, as he replied to the post and slandered the PDP leaders for squandering Nigeria\u2019s oil wealth during their 16-year rule.<\/p>\n

Bashir Ahmad posted a reply in a thread format saying, \u201cHilarious! In terms of infrastructure, these three presidents combined can\u2019t boast even a third of what President Buhari achieved in his eight years. That is not even an opinion, that is a fact.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cIt is on record that, despite being in power for 16 years with three different presidents, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) failed to deliver a single legacy project as beneficial as the Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge railway, one of the numerous infrastructure achievements of former President Muhammadu Buhari.”<\/em><\/p>\n

He further added, \u201cThis is even more disgraceful considering that PDP governed during two major oil booms, periods that can be regarded as the best in Nigeria\u2019s history in terms of revenue generation.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cFrom 1999 to 2008, global oil demand surged due to geopolitical tensions and limited supply, pushing crude oil prices to over $140 per barrel. <\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cAt the same time, Nigeria was producing over 2.5 million barrels of crude daily, the highest in our history. This was the golden era for oil-producing countries. Countries like the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, etc., invested heavily in transformative infrastructure and built sovereign wealth funds to secure their futures.<\/em><\/p>\n

Bashir Ahmad further buttressed his point that the PDP built nothing with Nigeria<\/em> and couldn’t save Nigeria with the wealth it amassed from the golden oil era.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cMeanwhile, Nigeria, under the PDP, built nothing and saved nothing.<\/em><\/p>\n

“Another oil boom occurred between 2010 and 2014 when oil prices rebounded, averaging over $100 per barrel. Yet again, despite having unprecedented resources, PDP governments failed to translate wealth into tangible infrastructure that Nigerians can point to today.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThe only achievement they can boast of from that period is economic growth figures on paper, numbers that mean little to the average Nigerian struggling with poor roads, an unreliable power supply, and decaying public services. <\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cIn contrast, President Buhari, despite facing a more challenging economic environment and earning far less in oil revenue, delivered numerous legacy projects that can be pointed at today.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Without much surprise, Bashir Ahmad’s post on X received lots of heated engagements between APC and PDP supporters. PDP supporters had a lot of negative economic policies to remind Ahmad about Buhari’s administration.<\/p>\n

They mentioned how the dollar FX in the country went from \u20a6197\/$1 in 2015 to over \u20a6750\/$1 in 2023, driving Nigeria into a recession that it has never recovered from.<\/p>\n

Others also mentioned how the country experienced the worst insecurity threats in its history with the emergence of several terrorist\/bandits groups, the geometric rise of kidnapping, and the consistent borrowing of funds from International organisations just to pay workers’ salary.<\/p>\n
