Dr. Yusuf Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s (LP) vice presidential candidate in the general election of 2023, and Peter Obi’s running mate has acknowledged that Julius Abure is still the party’s national chairman in light of the Supreme Court’s decision.<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Regarding the ongoing issue in the opposition party, the former running mate of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi<\/a> disagrees with his former principal.<\/p>\n

This was stated by Baba-Ahmed yesterday while appearing as a guest on a national television show.<\/p>\n

He declared his intention to run for president in 2027 during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Julius Abure-led LP faction in Abuja on Monday.<\/p>\n

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s<\/a> presidential contender in the 2023 election, supports that faction.<\/p>\n

The faction reappointed Senator Nenadi Usman as interim chairman and Senator Darlington Nkwocha as interim national secretary during its NEC meeting over the weekend.<\/p>\n

Joe Ajaero, the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), was also in attendance of the meeting.<\/p>\n

The Abure-led group was deemed inconsequential by the faction.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cWhen INEC raised issues about the tenure of Abure that necessitated the responses in Umuahia, Abia State, and we did so clearly, legally, and legitimately. I was a part of it.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Supreme Court gave a ruling, which we interpreted again in favour of the Nenadi Usman group.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfterwards, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continued to relate with the Abure faction. We are law-abiding citizens. Members of the Labour Party are being remote-controlled and played with by some powerful forces out there. But they can\u2019t continue to do this forever. Very soon, it will end, and what you see going on now is what the authorities at that time said.<\/p>\n

\u201cRight now, INEC has been dealing with Julius Abure. So, as far as law is concerned, it is in order to relate with Abure.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd if the Supreme Court gives another interpretation that it is Nenadi Usman, the law is the law.\u201d<\/p>\n
