Similarly, <strong>Hlompho Malehodi<\/strong>, a mechatronics apprentice, spoke of her journey from vocational training to representing South Africa in the <strong>WorldSkills competition<\/strong> in Lyon, France\u2014making history as the first Black woman in mechatronics at that level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In his remarks, Minister Nzimande reminded attending youth that they belong to a democratic society built on their ancestors\u2019 sacrifices, now richer in educational opportunity. He urged them to pursue STEMI (science, technology, engineering, mathematics and innovation) careers to help solve major national challenges: poverty, inequality, pandemics and climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"national-roll-out-of-science-culture\">National Roll\u2011out of Science Culture<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year, <strong>National Science Week (NSW)<\/strong> runs from <strong>4 to 9 August 2025<\/strong>, featuring events in every province, from interactive science caf\u00e9s and exhibitions to career guidance sessions, research dialogues, and hands\u2011on workshops\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.saasta.ac.za\/programmes\/focus-weeks\/national-science-week\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">saasta.ac.za<\/a>. The initiative is coordinated by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saasta.ac.za\/programmes\/focus-weeks\/national-science-week\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SAASTA<\/a><\/strong>, the science\u2011engagement arm of the <strong>National Research Foundation (NRF)<\/strong>, working with schools, community organisations and government agencies to bring STI closer to the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Communities across the country\u2014from Limpopo to Western Cape\u2014are invited to host registered events. The goal is clear: make scientific engagement accessible, relatable and inclusive\u2014not just in major cities, but in rural and township contexts too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DSTI aims to cement science culture as a foundation for economic and social progress.
