30 by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission.<\/p>\n<p>Under the guise of &#8220;Major Stakeholders,&#8221; the <a href=\"https:\/\/naijaeyesblog.com\/ro\/politics\/rivers-elders-appeal-to-tinubu\/\">Rivers Elders<\/a> and other stakeholders, urged the president to revoke the state&#8217;s declared state of emergency and restore Siminalayi Fubara, the suspended governor, and the state House of Assembly members.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/chat.whatsapp.com\/GxfCtlAzWSMAtz92Gn6fws\" target=\"_blank\" Dakuku Peterside, Senator Lee Maeba, Chief Abiye Sekibo, and Atedo Peterside.<\/p>\n<p>Other stakeholders are Prince Fafaa Dan Princewill, Dagogo Jack, Randolph Iwo Brown, Dr Austin Tam-George, Donu Kogbara, Dr Sokonte Davies, Dr Glory Emeh, George Feyii, Honourable Asita, Sam Agwor and Ann-Kio Briggs.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that on March 18, 2025, Fubara, Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Odu, and members of the state House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, were suspended by the President.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_21474\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21474\" style=\"width: 614px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-21474\" src=\"https:\/\/naijaeyesblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/IBAS.png\" alt=\"Rivers\" width=\"614\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/naijaeyesblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/IBAS.png 614w, https:\/\/naijaeyesblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/IBAS-230x300.png 230w, https:\/\/naijaeyesblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/IBAS-322x420.png 322w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-21474\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rivers sole administrator, Ibas<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In their appeal, the Rivers elders claimed that democracy would be threatened if the <a href=\"https:\/\/rsiec.rv.gov.ng\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">RSIEC<\/a>, which was established by Vice Admiral Ibas (retd.), proceeded with the LG poll.<\/p>\n<p>The open letter was titled: \u201cRivers LG election: A Serious Threat To Democracy and Repeated Violation of The Constitution \u2014 Urgent Warning From Major Stakeholders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Rivers elders insisted that \u201cthe proposed local government council election in Rivers State is nothing short of an existential assault on our democracy and a brazen flouting of Nigeria\u2019s class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rivers elders<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>They also raised concerns over the ongoing \u201cviolation of constitutional governance and due process in the unlawful attempt to hold LG election in the state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The letter read, \u201cThese elections, orchestrated by a \u2018Sole Administrator\u2019 with no constitutional mandate and allegedly imposed by the Federal Government, threaten the very foundations of our federal system, the rule of law, and the peace of Rivers State.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/chat.whatsapp.com\/GxfCtlAzWSMAtz92Gn6fws\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><span class=\"td_btn td_btn_sm td_default_btn\">Join our WhatsApp group<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst, there is currently no legally constituted Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) as mandated by Sections 2, 3, 5, and 12 of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission Law, 2018.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30247\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30247\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-30247\" src=\"https:\/\/naijaeyesblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/tinubu-fubara-1.jpg\" alt=\"Tinubu\" width=\"650\" height=\"350\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fubara x Tinubu<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cConsequently, any electoral activities undertaken by such an illegitimate body are null and void.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-container  margin-top margin-bottom\">\n<p>\u201cWith no formal notification for candidate nominations or polling timetables, and an election date of August 30, 2025, announced on short notice, this process bears a resemblance to the 2024 polls, which the Supreme Court annulled due to procedural failures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIgnoring these safeguards is not an oversight; it is a deliberate attack on the principle of due process,\u201d the group said.<\/p>\n<p>The Rivers elders additionally stressed that the RSIEC had ignored the mandatory 90-day notice requirement before an election, as stipulated in Section 20 of the RSIEC Law.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_26454\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-26454\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img democracy to intervene decisively.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRivers State stands at a crossroads: surrender to impunity or uphold the constitution and the will of the people.
