Mr. Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, responded to the arrest of former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal by agents of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC)<\/a>.<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Recall that on the former governor of Sokoto state was taken into custody on Monday in Abuja for allegedly making fraudulent cash withdrawals totaling approximately N189 billion.<\/p>\n

Peter Obi said in a statement on Tuesday that the former governor’s arrest<\/a> and interrogation “has opened up an existing contradiction apparent in the fight against corruption” in Nigeria.<\/p>\n

\n

Peter Obi said he has always reiterated that the sincerity of Nigerian leaders \u201cis what is needed to tackle corruption in our society.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI look forward to the time when the anti corruption fight in this country will be under one law that applies to all, no matter who is involved, and not one targeting political opponents and perceived enemies of the incumbent government.<\/p>\n

\u201cI expect the anti-graft operatives to be guided by their conscience and the rule of law if they hope to achieve much in wiping out corruption in our society.<\/p>\n
