The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC<\/a>) has disclosed that that all is now set\u00a0 and ready for the conduction of the Saturday by-elections in Anambra South Senatorial zone and Onitsha North 1 state Assembly constituency.<\/strong><\/h5>\n

This information was revealed to reporters in Awka on Friday by Queen Elizabeth Agwu, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC).<\/p>\n

She stated that the process will take place in 118 wards in the Onitsha North 1 state Assembly district, and the poll would take place in 210 wards in the Anambra South Senatorial zone.<\/p>\n

Additionally, she stated that 92,223 individuals were eligible to vote in the Onitsha North 1 state Assembly district, whereas 817,521 registered voters were anticipated to choose a winner for the Anambra South Senatorial zone seat.<\/p>\n

According to Agwu, the death of the seat occupants\u2014Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah, who passed away in London on July 26, 2024, and Justice Azuka, who was abducted on December 24, 2024\u2014led to the call for the two constituency by-elections.<\/p>\n

According to the REC, the commission has taken the necessary steps to guarantee free, fair, and credible elections.<\/p>\n

She said that INEC<\/a> had met with all of the key players, including security services, and that all of the candidates had committed to working together to make sure the election went well.<\/p>\n

Agwu encouraged voters to cast their ballots in large numbers and cautioned those who had no business at the polling station to avoid the constituency during the election.<\/p>\n

She noted that INEC did not have any favourite political parties or candidates for the next elections and encouraged all eligible voters to vote for their favourite candidate as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

Agwu said that both critical and non-sensitive election materials had already been delivered to the several constituencies where the vote would take place, ahead of the appropriate Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) office representatives.<\/p>\n

According to her, the exercise was carried out in a very polite and professional way in front of journalists who saw the documents being distributed, security services, and members of a few political parties.<\/p>\n
