Senator Ned Nwoko, the senator represents Delta North, has stated that until the federal government addresses the region’s long-standing sense of marginalisation, peace would continue to elude the southeast.<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Speaking on Channels Television’s “Sunday Politics,<\/a>” Nwoko claimed that “perceived injustice by successive governments” is the root cause of the agitation in the area.<\/p>\n

He claimed that establishing Anioma state and freeing Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), would significantly contribute to the issue’ resolution.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe problem in the south-east has to do with perceived injustice by successive governments,\u201d Ned Nwoko said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo what needs to be done, and it\u2019s one of the reasons I am here today, is the creation of a new state to make up the number to six, and then the release of Nnamdi Kanu.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy the time you do these two things, I am almost certain that peace will return to the south-east.\u201d<\/p>\n

There are currently five states in the southeast, which is one fewer than other geopolitical zones in the nation.<\/p>\n

Over the years, the area has had numerous security issues, which are mostly related to IPOB’s demands for a distinct Biafran republic.<\/p>\n

\u2018KANU HELD UNJUSTLY\u2019<\/b><\/p>\n

Since his re-arrest in June 2021, Nnamdi Kanu<\/a> has been under the Department of State Services’ (DSS) custody. The federal high court in Abuja is considering allegations against him relating to terrorism.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0 Senator Ned Nwoko, the IPOB leader’s ongoing incarceration is unfair and has turned into one of the primary causes of insecurity in the area.<\/p>\n

He added that a political resolution to the matter would help calm tensions and open the door for meaningful dialogue.<\/p>\n
