Vice President Kashim Shettima on Wednesday left Abuja for Kebbi State on the orders of President Bola Tinubu to meet with state authorities and families of the schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga.<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President’s spokesperson and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, said in a statement that Shettima will meet with traditional leaders, security chiefs, parents of the abducted kids, and Governor Nasiru Idris of Kebbi<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Vice President Kashim Shettima<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

\u201cPresident Tinubu had specifically directed the Vice President to assure the people of Kebbi State that the Federal Government will ensure the quick and safe release of the abducted girls.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring the visit, VP Shettima<\/a> will also convey the President\u2019s condolences over the recent security challenges and reaffirm the administration\u2019s commitment to securing all educational institutions across the country,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n

According to Nkwocha, Shettima is travelling with Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress<\/a>; Dr. Bernard Doro, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction; Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, Minister of Women Affairs; and Zubaida Umar, Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency.<\/p>\n

The vice president’s visit comes after gunmen raided the school early on Monday, murdering the vice principal and kidnapping at least 25 schoolgirls.<\/p>\n

However, as hunters and security personnel step up their search for the other missing schoolgirls, one of the girls is said to have safely escaped.<\/p>\n

Concerns about ongoing banditry in the northwest have increased as a result of the occurrence.<\/p>\n

President Tinubu had earlier voiced his sorrow over the event, stating that the kidnapping and the concurrent deaths of Brigadier General Musa Uba and other soldiers in a different attack in Borno State had left him “heartbroken.”<\/p>\n
