A yet-to-be-identified number of persons have been feared killed following an attack launched by unknown gunmen near the Afor Market Junction in Nawfia community, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State on Sunday.<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Residents were thrown into fear and panic as the attackers<\/a> reportedly opened fire on unsuspecting members of the community.<\/p>\n

Some victims were reportedly badly injured while others fled for safety.<\/p>\n

Anambra Community Hit by Brutal Gunmen Attack, Many Feared Dead<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

One source said, \u201cThe armed hoodlums invaded Afor Market Junction and immediately opened fire, killing a lot of people. Nobody knows the reason behind the attack; the attack has left our community shaken.\u201d<\/p>\n

Some other residents who also spoke to sources<\/a> on the development expressed shock over the incident, with many calling for increased security presence.<\/p>\n

An eyewitness near the scene said, \u201cIt was chaos. The attackers came out of nowhere this evening in a commando-like fashion and started shooting indiscriminately.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe police have launched an investigation into the attacks and are working to apprehend the perpetrators.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chief Daniel Okoye, President General of the Nawfia Progressive Union, confirmed the development in a press statement on Sunday. He stated that investigations have started to identify the perpetrators and that pertinent security authorities have already been alerted.<\/p>\n

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, was unavailable for verification.<\/p>\n

But according to a police source who wished to remain anonymous, “the police have launched an investigation into the attacks and are working to apprehend the perpetrators.”<\/p>\n
