Riley Moore, a US congressman, stated that a strategic security pact between the US and Nigeria to combat terrorism and sectarian bloodshed in Nigeria is almost complete.<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Moore revealed this on Saturday night in a post on his X account<\/a>, pointing out that recent talks with Nigerian authorities had shown improvement in the nation’s security issues.<\/p>\n

Reports revealed earlier this week that a US congressional delegation under Riley Moore’s leadership had completed a fact-finding trip to Nigeria regarding claims of genocide and was scheduled to tell President Donald Trump by the end of this month.<\/p>\n

Five members of Congress made up the trip, which landed in Nigeria on Sunday and visited traditional rulers, especially in Benue State, Christian communities and leaders, internally displaced people, and survivors of terrorist attacks.<\/p>\n

They also had meetings with Lateef Fagbemi, the Federation’s Attorney General, and Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Advisor.<\/p>\n

Due to security concerns, Riley Moore<\/a> said, the group drove through areas of Benue State in armoured cars and visited with bishops, community leaders, and leaders of the Catholic and Protestant churches in order to obtain what he called “ground truth.”<\/p>\n

He continued by saying that Trump had given him and Tom Cole, the chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, the responsibility of creating a thorough report on the matter.<\/p>\n

Moore stated in his most recent post that the proposed framework will concentrate on fighting terrorist organisations that operate in the Northeast, such as Boko Haram and forces connected to ISIS.<\/p>\n

According to him, the discussions also addressed violence in the Middle Belt.<\/p>\n

Riley Moore characterised the violence in the Middle Belt as the extreme Fulani Muslims’ genocide against Christians. The Federal Government has continuously denied this, arguing that religion has no bearing on the nation’s security issues.<\/p>\n

He wrote, \u201cWe did have positive conversations with the Nigerian government, and I believe we are close to a strategic security framework to address both the ISIS and Boko Haram threat in the Northeast, as well as the genocide against Christians by the radical Fulani Muslims in the Middle Belt.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe report that I will present @POTUS with outlines paths to work with the Nigerian government to end the slaughter of our brothers and sisters in Christ.\u201d<\/p>\n

Riley Moore however did not provide details on when the framework would be finalised or the nature of US involvement.<\/p>\n

In late October, Trump designated Nigeria a \u201cCountry of Particular Concern\u201d over alleged persecution of Christians, a position the Federal Government has disputed, insisting that insecurity in the country has no religious dimension.<\/p>\n
