Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi has warned that constitutional governance and public trust are seriously threatened by the Federal Government’s alleged involvement in what he called “the forging of laws.”<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Peter Obi<\/a> said that there were recorded differences between laws enacted by the National Assembly and those subsequently published and implemented by the government in a statement titled “Migrating from Padded Budgets to Forged Laws,” which he shared on his X account on Saturday.<\/p>\n

He described the problem as a grave constitutional violation that demonstrates profound institutional deterioration, saying it goes beyond administrative error.<\/p>\n

Peter Obi claimed that Nigeria has transitioned from a period of bloated budgets to one in which laws are purportedly changed, with repercussions for the rights of taxpayers and their access to justice.<\/p>\n

The former governor of Anambra State also criticised the presidency for being silent on the issue, pointing out that the accusations include potential falsification, procedural abuse, and institutional sabotage.<\/p>\n

Peter Obi wrote<\/a>: \u201cOur national shame continues to unfold, evident in the decisions made by our leaders, even at the highest levels of government. This shame is highlighted by a deeply troubling\u2014and frankly unacceptable\u2014issue: the documented discrepancies between what the legislature passed and what was ultimately published as law by the executive. This is not merely an administrative oversight; it is a serious matter that strikes at the core of constitutional governance and reveals the extent of our institutional decay.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have transitioned from a Nigeria where budgets are padded to one where laws are forged\u2014changes that impact taxpayers\u2019 rights and, most importantly, access to justice.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven more alarming is the introduction of new enforcement and coercive powers that the House of Representatives never approved. These include an outrageous requirement for a mandatory 20% deposit before appeals can be heard in court, asset sales without judicial oversight, and the granting of arrest powers to tax authorities.<\/p>\n

\u201cPerhaps most disturbing is the silence of the Presidency on a matter involving allegations of forgery, institutional sabotage, and abuse of process. Who made these alterations?<\/p>\n
